Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Learn important safety information about Semaglutide and Tirzepatide during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and future pregnancy planning, including when to speak with your provider about treatment changes.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding, it’s important to inform your provider as soon as possible so your treatment plan can be reviewed.

What should I do if I become pregnant during treatment?

If you become pregnant while taking GLP-1 medication:

  • Do not take your next dose

  • Contact your care team promptly

  • Follow the guidance provided by your licensed provider or OB/GYN

Your provider will review your treatment plan and discuss the next steps with you.

Can I use GLP-1 medication while breastfeeding?

These medications are not recommended while breastfeeding.

If you are currently nursing or planning to breastfeed, speak with your provider before starting or continuing treatment.

What if I plan to become pregnant in the future?

If pregnancy may be part of your future plans, it’s important to discuss your timeline and treatment goals with your provider.

Because GLP-1 medications are generally not recommended during pregnancy, your provider may advise stopping treatment before trying to conceive. The appropriate timing can vary depending on:

  • Your medication

  • Your treatment plan

  • Your medical history

  • Your pregnancy timeline

Your provider can guide you on the approach for your situation.

Does GLP-1 medication affect fertility?

Questions about fertility and future pregnancy planning should always be discussed with a licensed provider.

Your provider can review your health history, current treatment, and long-term goals to help determine the best next steps for you.

Important safety note

Always inform your provider about:

  • Pregnancy

  • Possible pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding

  • Plans to become pregnant

This helps ensure your treatment plan remains appropriate for your needs.

Note: GLP-1 medications are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, speak with your provider so your treatment plan can be reviewed safely.
